What's special about studio photography and modelling?
Portrait sessions and modelling in a dedicated studio offer an environment free from everyday distractions, and a background free from clutter - with many different options for the backdrop - and the opportunity for the photographer to control completely the lighting on the model(s).
Thus, all attention in the resulting photo's is on the model, or group. Suitable props, lights etc can be added into the scene to create an "environment" if required for, say, lifestyle type shoots. All sorts of different "moods" can be created with special lighting. Effects can be added - including a smoke machine which can create real fun images!
Why would I want studio photo's and what might I use them for?
There are so many reasons people might want quality, eye catching photo's of themselves - or with their friends or family. Mobile phone shots and "selfies" may be ok for quick, every day fun snaps but can never compare to the exquisitely crafted high resolution images which can be created in a studio shoot.
Some examples might be: Social media profile pictures; Promotions, whether work or hobby; Linkedin; website; C.V; making personal greetings cards, or maybe for getting attention on a dating site! You may be an aspiring model not wanting to pay the exorbitant prices agencies can charge, or simply wanting to up-date your portfolio. Not to mention the good, old fashioned framed photo' on the mantle piece, of course!
Why book one of our studio experiences?
Create a special, lasting, memory.
Capture a special moment in your life.
Celebrate your individuality and unique beauty.
Boost your self confidence and overcome insecurities.
Be creative, relax and, above all, have fun! Some of our clients have said a studio experience is a great way to unwind, focus a little time on themselves, and just "forget about the pressures of everyday life for a while"
Studio portrait photography can be considered as an art form centered on empathy, trust, and empowerment. Some clients see sessions as a deeply personal experience, which often involve embracing their confidence, overcoming insecurities, or celebrating their individuality.
All this requires the photographer to foster a safe, judgment-free environment, free from dismissive attitudes and flippant remarks.

A testimonial from a recent client:
Judita, from Exeter kindly wrote:
“This was my first professional photo shoot...... John put me at ease straight away. I absolutely, totally and utterly loved the whole experience and will definitely return for some more shoots; I have so many ideas, my head is buzzing 😊. Photography allows me to be myself and to express my emotions, from being totally happy and the opposite to being not so happy, remembering sad moments from the past.
It gives me the sense of empowerment, a sense of belonging and a sense that I am enough the way I am”.
We are offering a limited number of studio Experiences at our home studio in Exmister for nothing more than a donation to Children's Hospice South West - suggested minimum donation £25 for a mini session lasting about an hour (plus our editing time after the shoot), via our Just Giving Fundraiser page. Contact us for further details.
Free studio portrait sessions are also available! To enable us to practice and continue to improve, we are often seeking models who, in exchange for their time, will receive free edited digital images! Contact us for details.
